Young People

Our Accommodation

Our homes provide welcoming, nurturing environments, with privacy, space and staffing levels that are tailored around supporting young people to achieve their potential, despite challenges (e.g. 1:1, 2:1 if needed for a time). Our homes are well maintained, quality assured and well equipped (including new white goods with each new admission). Young people have a key to the front door and they also have a lockable, single bedroom.

Out of hours, we provide local, 24/7 ‘on-call’ emergency response services staffed by managers. Our teams can respond quickly to the service needs and are very experienced in working closely with Emergency Duty Teams.  We can take emergency/short notice admissions as our staff are skilled and experienced in making the transition smooth for young people who are admitted from secure environments, placement breakdowns in other provisions, or when emergency safeguarding or need to relocate, situations are required.

On arrival, young people are provided with a Home/Welcome guide and are inducted into our service where they will be informed of house rules, emergency contacts, evacuation procedures and safety.  Part of making young people feel at home and welcome involves staff assisting them to purchase items to help personalise their homes, helping to develop a sense of ownership.

What makes Sixteen Plus Unique?:

  • We do not give up on young people
  • We do not charge local authorities for property damage caused by young people
  • We can consider discounts for dual/multiple occupancy
  • Flexibility on notice period from local authorities to end placements
  • Proven track record to manage and accommodate the most ‘at risk’/challenging/complex young people

Service quality

Quality is assessed and maintained via regular home visits (announced and unannounced) carried out by managers and our Compliance Officers. We listen to young people and capture their views and preferences. We also listen to and gain feedback from our staff. Our satisfaction surveys gather valuable feedback from young people, family members and professionals and we adopt a “you said, we did” approach to continually improve our service.

We recognise that collaborative working is crucial for the best support and outcomes for young people and therefore foster multi-agency partnerships to manage risks and safeguarding and to support positive outcomes.

Our Aims

We are committed to young people and helping them to maximise their potential. We do not give up on young people and hold their safety and welfare as paramount. This ethos is reflected in our dealings with our young people, staff, commissioners, social workers and all partner agencies. Many of the young people have challenging behaviours but all have unique talents and we aim to treat them respectfully as individuals.

Sixteen Plus exists to support young people in their transition from childhood to being adults – ‘Bridging skills to full independence’.

For the independence of the young people in our care to grow & for our support to taper down, in preparation for a stable ‘move-on’ into adulthood.

To provide appropriate accommodation & support services that offer young people day to day support & training to achieve positive results.

To offer continuity & commitment to the young people in our care & a nurturing environment to help them to maximise their potential.

To increase young people’s skills, confidence and self-esteem by providing them with a positive network of support and links into their community.

To believe in & relate to young people, focusing on offering support, safeguarding & helping them to raise their aspirations & life goals.
